BREAKING NEWS: EDEOGA REJOINS PDP AFTER GOVERNORSHIP PETITION LOSS.
Barrister Chijioke Edeoga, the former 2023 Labour Party Governorship candidate in Enugu State, has rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Edeoga arrived at the PDP headquarters in Enugu on Monday, where he formally rejoined the party.
This move follows his legal challenge against the declaration of Governor Peter Mbah as the winner of the March 18, 2023, Governorship election. Edeoga had contested the submission of a purported fake certificate by Mbah from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), alongside accusations of election irregularities, including over-voting in various local governments.
His petition was dismissed by the Enugu State Petition Tribunal, which ruled that an NYSC certificate was not a mandatory requirement for gubernatorial candidates. Edeoga’s appeal to the Court of Appeal was also unsuccessful, and the Supreme Court ultimately upheld the lower courts’ rulings, affirming that Peter Mbah was duly elected as Governor of Enugu State.
