Gov. Mbah Leads Grand Celebration for Elder Statesman Jim Nwobodo
Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, over the weekend led a host of dignitaries in celebrating elder statesman and former Governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, as he marked his 85th birthday.
The grand event, held at Nwobodo’s country home in Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu, drew prominent personalities from across the state. Speaking at the occasion, Governor Mbah described the octogenarian as an “epitome of excellence” and a “priceless gift” to humanity, Enugu State, and Nigeria.
“It will be difficult to find words that amply capture the true essence of what Dr. Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo represents. Your life is a living proof that the true value of existence is selfless service,” the governor said.
Highlighting Nwobodo’s enduring legacies—from his time as Governor at 39, to his record-breaking tenure as Minister of Youth and Sports, and as a courageous Senator—Mbah noted that his leadership has remained a beacon for generations.
“You have provided a shoulder on which countless leaders stand. You are a charismatic, yet unassuming leader; a man of all seasons,” Mbah added.
He wished Nwobodo continued good health and long life, stressing the importance of his wisdom in shaping emerging leaders.
In response, Senator Nwobodo praised Governor Mbah’s performance in office, describing him as “a success,” driven by divine inspiration and a willingness to listen and act.
“Whether anybody likes it or not, Peter is a success. The results speak for him. God gave him this opportunity, and he is using it well,” Nwobodo said.
He further thanked the governor for honouring him while alive, noting that Mbah’s gesture reinforces the value of appreciating leaders during their lifetime.
The celebration was attended by a host of distinguished personalities, including former Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai; members of the Enugu State Executive Council; lawmakers; council chairmen led by ALGON Chairman Hon. Okechukwu Edeh; and traditional rulers under the leadership of Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu.
